Mining for metals can be easy but sometimes though depending on what you seek. Coal is the most abundant ore and is used to cooking and melting metals like iron or gold. Iron is the second and is commonly used for armory and sword crafting. And gold, is the third. Gold is only good for crafting watches for "time". The most valuable item in minecraft is the diamond.
